GAME HEAD
Seventh Edition
March 1996
Copyright 1996 Pacific HiTech, Inc.
All Rights Reserved
Welcome to the seventh edition of Pacific HiTech's Game Head CD-ROM, a
monthly collection from our games archive, the busiest games site on
the World Wide Web. This disc contains over 50 of the most popular
games on our site including: shareware, public domain programs and
commercial demos.
Installation of the Interface Program
-------------------------------------
You first need to install the interface program that will allow you to
browse, install and run the games on this CD-ROM.
From the DOS prompt (C:\>) switch to your CD-ROM drive by typing in
its letter followed by a colon. For example, if your CD-ROM drive is
labelled "D" then type:
D:
Now that the DOS prompt reflects the letter of your CD drive ( D:\> ),
type:
INSTALL
You will be prompted with a question asking you whether to install the SVGA,
(high resolution) or VGA (lower resolution) interface. Only people with the
very old computers should choose VGA (do these people have CD-ROM drives?).
Running the Interface Program
Now that the interface program has been installed onto your hard
drive, (assuming that you have installed the interface on your hard
drive C:) you can run it by typing:
C:
CD GH
GH7
Main Menu Screen
----------------
This will start up the interface program. Clicking the mouse will
bring up the "Main Menu" screen, which allows you to choose the category of
the games you wish to browse. There are eight categories of programs:
3D/Flight
Fighting/Shoot-em up
Cards/Puzzles
Strategy/Conquest
Top Ten
Golden Ten (New this month)
Windows
Editors & Add-ons
The programs in the categories "Top Ten" and "Windows" have a dual
identity: they can be found in other categories as well.
Browse Screen
-------------
Selecting a category on the Menu screen by using the mouse
or the tab key will bring up the "Browse" screen. The Browse screen
contains buttons of the various programs available in that category.
Selecting one of the games buttons will bring up the "Read Me and Run"
screen. Choosing the "Search" button on this screen will let you look
for key words in the text fields that describe the games. Choosing
the "Home" button will take you back to the Main Menu screen.
Read Me and Run Screen
----------------------
The Read Me and Run screen contains specific information about the
program that you have selected. Choosing the "Run" button from here
will invoke an installation program if necessary, and will then run
the program. The "Search" button works the same on this screen as it
does on the Browse screen. The three "Hand" buttons on this screen
will allow you to navigate backward and forward through the programs
in the current category as well as back up to the Browse screen.
Games with Special Installation
-------------------------------
In order to run the programs in the Windows category, you will need to
be running either Windows 95 or have Windows 3.1 on your machine but be
running the Game Head interface from DOS. The Game Head Interface will
allow you to launch Windows with the game running. If you choose this
option, you will need to exit Windows to DOS (by closing the Program
Manager) in order to return to the Game Head Interface.
Tips and Caveats
----------------
The interface and many of the games on this CD-ROM were designed to
run under a DOS environment. It is possible that some of the games
will not run under certain hardware and software configurations.
Many of these games may have minimum memory requirements. For optimum
results, do not run the interface or any of the DOS games while
Windows is running.
For Users of MSDOS 6.0 and above, you may also wish to configure your
memory using DOS's MEMMAKER.EXE program. Please refer to your DOS
manual for details on MEMMAKER's use.
In order to be able to use your mouse with the Game Head interface and
with many of the games included on the CD, you must first have your
DOS mouse driver loaded. Please refer to the instructions that came
with your mouse for details on how to do this.
Shareware
---------
Many of these games are shareware, which means that if you
continue using them (most games come with a free trial period for
you to test it out) you are required to pay a fee to the author. See the
individual game listings for details. Purchasing this CD-ROM does not
release you from this obligation.
Credits
-------
We would like to give special thanks to all the game authors who made
this CD-ROM possible.
